SOUTH COVE BOARD MINUTES

 August 16, 2005

At the home of Randy Uyeno

Board Members Present  Thomas Marquis, Don Meyer, Jill Cyra, Rod Putney, Chad Hardisty, Sam Rosenbaum, Julie McDaniel, Randy Uyeno and briefly Craig Elkins.

Meeting called to order at 7:05 PM by Thomas Marquis.

Minutes   Thomas read the July 2005 minutes; approved as read.

Thomas Marquis nominated Rod Putney to the position of Vice President for the remainder of 2005, in place of Jeff Hertogs (due to conflicts, Jeff has been unable to attend past meetings and has resigned from his position). The Board unanimously approved the nomination.

Thomas asked the Board to start soliciting neighbors for 2006 Board nominations. Randy mentioned a neighbor, Betsy Evans, who was interested in a Board position.

Rules and Regulations Craig Elkins stopped by to obtain signatures from all the standing executive Board Members for 2004 and 2005 (President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary) for the amended By-laws.

Treasurer’s Report  Jill reported an account balance of $37,636.00.  We are now down to five delinquent homeowner dues. Jill reported that her term would end this year and to be on the lookout for a replacement treasurer who would be willing to use the new QuickBooks software program.

Architectural Control Committee  Sam reported that four ACC requests had been submitted; all were approved.

Fences on the park are an ongoing subject of discussion. Thomas asked Sam to conduct additional research from past Board members on this subject. Sam will request clarification from a homeowner regarding an ACC request for fencing on the park.

Don mentioned that he is constantly being questioned about the overall appearance of the South Cove community, especially as it pertains to yard maintenance. Thomas passed around the letter that was drafted to remind residents to try to maintain their properties for the benefit of all. Don recommended appealing to the community as a whole by putting on the website a quarterly interview with photos of the homeowners who had made marked improvements in their landscaping or home appearance. The Board thought this was a good idea, and Don will coordinate with Randy on how and when he will start this process.

Parks and Landscaping   Rod is working with Nyce Gardens to provide landscaping plans for the four park entrances. Rod will post two dates for planned work parties to help cleanup the park entrances, September 10th and 17th from 9AM to 11AM. Participants should bring shovels, picks, hoes, and their recycle bins. Rod will contact the utilities department to mark all underground services.

Rod reported that he did ask a couple of non-residents to leave the park, and did speak with the parents of a couple of troublesome young kids, but otherwise their have been no complaints about problems in the park.

The Board would like to thank Mike and Carol Ladd and Scott Hall and his son for watering the newly planted trees in the park during our recent dry spells.

Government Affairs Committee   Chad reported there were reports of people concerned about the vehicle safety at the round-about by Sunset Elementary. In his research, the expansion adds more vehicle space and provides better yielding points as you enter the circle. The current project is not complete and should provide a safer round-about.

The next SLSA meeting is at David Bangs home August 18th.

There is a Pre-Annexation meeting September 6th at the Issaquah Council Chambers.

Welcome Committee  Chad said 5 new residents have moved into our community.

Beach Committee   Don reported that two new ladders have been installed on the floating dock. The dock doesn’t appear to need additional anchoring at this time. The only remaining item to address was to install two additional yellow buoys to the front rope.

Don is going to look into the cost of installing a pole and floodlight at the beach to discourage teenagers that congregate after-hours at the beach and become noisy.

Tennis Court Julie reported that the tennis court gate lock requires repair or replacement. The Board authorized up to $200.00 to repair or replace the gate lock.

Newsletter Randy has requested all entries for the Newsletter be submitted by the September Board meeting. The November Annual meeting is November 17th at the Sunset Multi-Purpose room.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.

Next meeting is at Jill Cyra’s home Thursday September 20th at 7:00 PM.
