The minutes of the January, 2001 meeting were
read and approved.
The South Cove Homeowners Association account
has been moved to a Key Bank ‘sweep’
interest-bearing account. Current balance is $36,500.
There are currently 22 homeowners past due with
their annual dues. This represents
$3,850 in outstanding unpaid dues. 2
notices as well as a letter have been sent to these homeowners requesting
payment. Board members will be
contacting these homeowners by phone to request payment.
Bills paid to date have been for landscape
maintenance and water (all per the approved 2001 budget).
Three Architectural Review requests were
received this past month. Two were for
the approved Elk Prestige – Weatheredwood roofing, the other was for
replacement of side and back fencing.
After review and discussion with homeowners, the committee approved each
request.
Mark Buick reported that a roofing product
approved for use in South Cove in prior years is involved in a class action
lawsuit. The product is knows as
‘Cemwood’. Homeowners with this product
should be aware of this lawsuit as it may be of benefit to them. Further information will be posted on the
South Cove web site by David Bangs.
Contract has been renewed with our landscape
maintenance company for continued service in 2001.
Irrigation problems – Olympic Irrigation will
come out and review our park and provide analysis and recommendation on what
needs to be done to fix the drainage problems.
The board approved up to
$350 for this work (funds will come out of the park budget).
Sign posts at the S.E. 44th Way
entrance are rotting out. David Bangs
coordinate this repair with Steve Meyer, as well as repair needed for some mail
boxes, park benches, and playground
equipment.
Laura Black and Leigh Bangs have volunteered to
co-chair the organizing of Easter activities.
Laura will work with Mark Buick and David Bangs on signs,
communications, publications, etc. for this event. Our thanks to Laura and Leigh for their volunteer efforts. This is a special event for our South Cove
little ones.
Pacific Playground reviewed our playground
equipment and provided a proposal last year, but no replacement was made. Kendra and her committee felt that different
equipment than what was selected in 2000 would better fit the needs of the
children, and at less cost. There was
discussion about equipment, costs, and funding.
David suggested the committee look at other
companies than Pacific. In past years,
they have wanted to replace sections that they had sold to us the prior
year. Their efforts seem focused on
sales, sales, sales, no maintenance or longevity. In addition, their 2000 proposal included enlargening the
playground area to accommodate all the equipment they recommended. There doesn’t appear to be a need (demand)
to make the playground area any larger.
Kendra will review other playground equipment
companies and her committee will report back at the March meeting. A proposal will also be made on a funding
recommendation to pay for the equipment.
Repairs – hinges on both doors need to be
replaced, as well as the door grating.
Susi will see the repairs are made.
Court Net – Susi Tom has a new net and will
install it with the help of Doug McDaniel.
Power Wash – Susi will work with Mike Quaranta
to have the court power washed by the company we have used in previous
years.
Signage – the north tennis court door is to be
an EXIT ONLY. Signage for the EXIT ONLY
and court rules and regulations will be obtained and installed. The board approved up to $120 for both
signs.
Susie Carney has developed summer tennis
registration forms. David Bangs will
publish on the web site, in the newsletter, and on mail box stands.
David Bangs asked board members to let him know
what we want in the next newsletter.
Some initial suggestions included:
Architectual
Review Committee asked that there be a reminder to homeowners to review the
web
site for required submission of forms for remodeling, roofing, etc. Homeowners are never
happy
when they have to pay twice for a roof (once for the unauthorized material they
used, and
again
for the approved roofing material).
Tennis
lessons – reference comments above.
Dogs
– there was lengthy discussion about including an article concerning dogs not
being kept
on
leashes and some homeowners letting dogs roam loose unattended around our
neighborhood.
Dogs
are to be on a leash in South Cove.
Homeowners are fed up with dogs roaming (and the
indifference
this shows from their owner to other neighbors). Homeowners should call Animal
Control
to report dogs running loose (or to turn in dogs they have detained).
New Business:
David Bangs reported the results of the e-mail
publication survey for the South Cove
community-sponsored garage sale. The issue was how often to have the
community garage sale.
26
homeowners voted (out of 275)
53%
wanted two garage sales per year.
39.3%
wanted one sale each year.
7.7%
didn’t feel the need for any garage sale.
Given the low response and lack of a clear
mandate, the board decided to leave the garage sale event as it currently
exists (annually in September).
