Brian Englund read the minutes from the April 19, 2000 meeting.  MSC (moved, seconded & carried) to approve the minutes as read.

Playground- Brad Wallum, Tom Goodspeed & Clark Colony

Models of  playground equipment were presented, and others were referenced in a catalog.  Various options were discussed, including relocating or removing existing equipment, slightly enlarging the play area, and adding new pieces in phases.  As the next step, drawings and renderings will be prepared for the Board’s review, including approximate costs, and different options as to placement of new equipment. The plan is to eventually build a model of the proposal that is decided on, to serve as an aid in the fund raising campaign.

Treasurers Report- Mark Buick

Mark reported that balances remain unchanged, at approximately $12,000 in checking and $20,000 in CD’s.  Collections for the month offset disbursements.  The Easter celebration was within the budget of $400.  There has been some success in collections of past due balances, with only seven outstanding, and a few of those promising to pay. Mark will make one more round of phone calls before sending out certified letters.

Parks and Entrances- Mark Buick

The bare spot in the grass by the tennis courts caused by the “mud football” last fall was re-seeded, however, not satisfactorily.  The seed was basically just thrown over the area, and there was an extra charge of $180.  Mark is going to discuss this with the contractor, NW Grounds.   NW Grounds will submit a proposal for the drain next to the standing water previously reported.  NW Grounds pruned the trees on the pathway to the side of the park for no charge.

Mark will also arrange for Washington Tree Service to check the trees in the park for any signs of unstable branches, and Olympic for the irrigation system pressure test.

Signs- David Bangs

David reported that the sign at the SE 44th Way entrance is bent and may need to be reset.

Tennis Courts- Susi Tom

Susi reported that based on an estimate from Contour Fence, the new hinges will only cost $12 each, but that the minimum labor charge is $300. She will look into whether Contour could perform some of the other minor repairs that are needed to make it more cost effective.  Chris Dederer also reported that he is having Contour and Town & Country Fence bid some work for him personally, and he will look into whether combining the jobs could reduce the labor charges.

One net is worn out, and a group of volunteers is getting together to replace it with the spare net.

Susi also reported that a women’s night has been organized for Thursdays from 6 p.m.to 8 p.m., and that a men’s night is being organized for Tuesdays.

 Beach- Mike Quaranta

Mike is obtaining a bid from TK Painting for the power washing of benches and tables throughout the park, and the surface of the tennis courts.  He will compare the bid with the amount charged in prior years. TLC, the company that has done the work over the past few years is no longer in this business. He will also arrange for new sand and general cleaning up of the beach area.

Special Events

The Easter celebration went very well, and was enjoyed by all.  David reported that the only minor hitch that he observed was that gold coins placed in some of the plastic eggs that were meant to be redeemed for prizes were eaten instead!  He suggests that non-edible objects be used in the future.

Architecture- Chris Dederer

Chris reported on a few minor projects involving decks, fences and landscaping that have received approval.

He also reported that Totem Paving has been unresponsive so he has not been able to get a firm estimate on Phase II.  There was discussion about deferring Phase II, and making the approximately $9,000 available instead for the playground project.  It was agreed that the Phase I replacement of some of the pathway last fall remedied a safety hazard, and that the remainder of the pathways are causing no immediate concerns. It was MSC to defer further repairs to the pathways to future years.

Traffic

There was nothing new to report on the investigation of possible action to reduce speeding in the neighborhood, except that another homeowner, Laura Black, has volunteered to help.

Security Patrols

There is $2,000 budgeted for security patrols. Tom Goodspeed offered to contact the King County Police Guild to explore the possibility of off duty police officer patrols on a fee-for-service basis.  David reported that he had received a solicitation from Northwest Protective Services.  Tom will contact this firm also.
